Tarpon's Electric & Controls division receives ABSA certification
On June 16, 2010, Tarpon’s Electric & Controls division was issued a certificate of authorization permit from ABSA (Alberta Boilers Safety Association) to construct, repair and alter pressure piping and instrument tubing in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) codes B31.1 and B31.3.
“Receiving this certification from ABSA reinforces our commitment to providing high quality products and services that meet or exceed industry regulations,” says Blake Wickland, Instrumentation Technical Services/Instrumentation Quality Control Manager. “By augmenting Tarpon’s existing internal processes, we are now operating in accordance with recent regulatory changes and are legally permitted to install and repair both pressure piping and instrument tubing.”
To obtain certification, Tarpon had to develop a comprehensive instrumentation Quality Management System and manual to meet the newly revised ABSA requirements, along with ASME regulations and the Safety Codes Act and CSA Codes. “The process was extremely rigorous as we not only had to submit our manual for review and approval but also physically demonstrate the validity of our revised Quality Management System to an ABSA auditor,” says Wickland.
After successfully achieving certification, Tarpon began implementing its refined Quality Management System company-wide. “Although the ABSA certification only applies to Alberta organizations, all of Tarpon’s locations will adopt the revised procedures to assure enhanced worker safety through comprehensive testing and extensive document control,” says Wickland. “Our goal is to ensure our clients receive the same best-in-class service and high quality products regardless of where we operate.”
